St. Cecilia Music Guild announces student scholarship

March 4, 2020

The St. Cecilia Guild has announced an award will be given to a graduating senior at Cape Henlopen High School who plans to major in music at an institution of higher learning.

The guild, a musical outreach program of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Lewes, will award a $1,000 scholarship to the winning student at a concert performed by the Lewes Chamber Players April 26.

“While the main purpose of the guild is to enable everyone in the community to have free access to quality music, we also believe it is important to encourage talented young people to pursue a career in the field of music,” said Pat Casadei, a member of the guild’s standing committee. “What better way to do this than to help with the expenses a college freshman will be facing?”

She said it is the guild’s attention to make this an annual nonrenewable award. In addition to the award presentation, the guild will also send a representative to the school’s Senior Awards Night to recognize the student at that time.

Cape seniors interested in applying for the scholarship should contact school counselor Kristin Clifton, choral teacher Marian Sunnergren, or band teacher Chris Burkhart for more details. Deadline for applications is March 27.
