First, I have to do a correction from last week. The Los Angeles Olympics will be in 2028. Paris, France will be the host in 2024. Sorry about that.
The swimming competition has been great fun to watch and quite successful for the USA. It seems like they have a strong medal contender in every race on both the men’s and women’s side. I am also happy that the women’s soccer competition and men’s basketball are not cakewalks for the U.S. teams to get a medal, because it makes the games more exciting to watch. Next week, I will also report about the golf competition. The men started on Wednesday and go to Saturday. The women play next week.
The Olympics can be found on TV or our computers at any time of day, and I am doing my fair share of checking regularly every day. It will be so interesting to hear how the athletes felt about all of the precautions that were taken once the games are over. I hope it was an overall positive experience regardless.
The Phillies had a doubleheader against the Washington Nationals on Thursday, losing the first game 3-1. In the second game, they came back from 7-0 to win the game with a Brad Miller walk-off grand slam home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was beyond awesome and yet so frustrating with how they have been playing. They are not making up much ground on the New York Mets in the division by splitting a four-game series 2-2.
I can't believe I am saying this, but the team is playing so inconsistently right now, that they have no business making the playoffs. Let's hope for better pitching in the weeks to come.
Last, but not least, the NBA Draft has started. I don’t understand why the NBA insists on having the draft two weeks after the season is over. That is unfair for the playoff teams. That would be like the NFL having their draft in the beginning of March instead of the end in April.
Have a good weekend. It's August already! Go USA!
