Susan Ellen Studds, devoted nurse

Susan Ellen (Brittingham) Studds of Georgetown passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 11, 2024, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Susan was well known for her compassion, grace, kindness, appreciation for nature and music, and love for her family and friends.

She was born in Milford to the late C. Virgil Brittingham and Carol (Abbott) Brittingham. She devoted many years caring for others as a nurse for the late Dr. Saberi in Lewes and at TidalHealth PRMC in Salisbury, Md.

She received her master’s degree in nursing from Wilmington University. Susan was a naturalist who deeply appreciated nature and all it encompasses. She loved the beach, spending many mornings watching the sunrise and evenings admiring the sunset. She enjoyed attending garden tours, making her Mom-mom Abbott’s fudge, and sitting on the front porch with her husband, Billy, and their dog, Abby. Above all, Susan deeply valued the quality time spent with her grandkids, as those moments enriched her life in ways that words cannot fully express.

Susan is survived by her devoted husband, William D. Studds; her beloved son, Chad (Nina) Hudson; her bonus daughter, Monica (Gary) Tompkins; her sisters, Kristy Brittingham, Sharon (Kevin) Wilson, and Tami (Chuck) Tucker. Susan was blessed with five grandchildren, Gary Lee and Isabella Tompkins, Capri and Jonah Hudson, and Izabella Martinez. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews, Leslee (Brandon) Hazzard, Katie Brittingham, Cori Taylor, Derek (Chelsea) Magee, Molly (Matthew) Garbrick, Sydney (Andrew) Metler, and Colin and Gavin Tucker; great-nieces and -nephews, Braydon, Braxton, Bentley, Liliana and Jade; as well as many other relatives and friends, who will never forget the love she brought to their lives.

Susan was preceded in death by her father, Virgil; and brother, David.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Saturday, Nov. 23, at Short Funeral Services Inc. sanctuary,  609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends and family may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. John’s Church Cemetery, Springfield Crossroads, Georgetown. Pastor Duane Smith will be officiating.
