On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles will play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with Tom Brady at the helm in the first round of the playoffs. It will be a pretty significant upset if the Eagles can pull off the victory since they have a very inexperienced set of skilled players on offense. For Tampa Bay, the strength of their team, besides Brady, is on defense. Harsh but true, I think the only reason the Eagles have any chance is because of the injuries to the Buccaneers wide receivers. One thing that gives me hope is that if the Jacksonville Jaguars can beat the Indianapolis Colts in the last game of the regular season, anything is possible.
On Monday night, the University of Georgia was able to get over the hump to beat Alabama by the score of 33-18 to win the College Football Championship for the first time since 1980. The game was a lot closer than the final score would indicate. Georgia scored their last touchdown by an interception returned for a score. Most of the scoring in the game was in the fourth quarter. I hope that next year the Big 10 or ACC have some good teams so that the SEC does not dominate college football as much.
I am already tired of winter, so let's switch it up and look forward to spring. There could be some good news in the MLB lockout situation. There is supposed to be a long negotiation session happening this week between the union and the owners. I hope they can make significant progress because the usual opening to spring training is only about a month away around Valentine’s Day. If the players and owners don't make a deal, I will be surprised if there is a full season this coming MLB season. Anything is possible, and I will choose to remain hopeful.
