Lewes Weis Markets brought 100 bags of food for families to H.O. Brittingham Elementary School for distribution April 9. The bags included cereal, tuna, pasta, canned vegetables, a loaf of bread, packaged fruit, bananas, and a carton of cola.
“We wanted to give some extra help for the families over the holiday weekend,” Steve Rayburn, Lewes store manager, said.
Rayburn reached out to Oliver Gumbs, director of business operations at Cape Henlopen School District, to boost the weekend deliveries. “The kitchen staff here is a well-oiled machine, and they deserve a lot of credit for keeping this process moving,” said Gumbs.
Regular food distribution will resume Tuesday, April 14. Find locations at www.capehenlopenschools.com/meals.
