Sacred Sounds experiential workshop set Dec. 19

Julie Fisher of Gifted Alchemy to lead healing
December 12, 2018

Julie Fisher of Gifted Alchemy will offer a Sacred Sounds workshop, an opportunity to experience sound healing, at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, at SoulFire Collective on the second floor at 176 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach. Cost is $25.

Sacred Sounds is a guided meditation led by Fisher, who uses a gong, singing bowls, drum, chimes and her voice to create a safe environment for participants to relax into a meditative state. Meditating with sound helps the brainwaves shift from an active thinking state into a slower relaxed state. This shift typically happens within 5 to 10 minutes. Being in a slower brainwave state helps the mind process information, gain insight and receive inspiration.

Sacred Sounds lasts approximately 35 minutes, followed by a period of silence to sustain the achieved state of relaxation. Participants bring blankets, pillows and padding to make themselves comfortable on the floor. They also bring a journal and pen to capture the ideas they receive.

Recent participant Diana Wheeler said, "My day had been super stressful and I was looking forward to a sound meditation all day! I did not really know what to expect and was a bit pessimistic that I would be able to yield any positive results. I was certainly wrong about that! Julie's session far exceeded my expectations and I immediately felt lighter, brighter and ready to handle anything that came my way! My sleep afterward was much more restful.”

SoulFire Collective, owned by Brooke and Kat Wyman, offers a welcoming environment to everyone who walks through the door.

“I’m always amazed by how deeply participants go during Sacred Sounds,” said Fisher. “I think it has a lot to do with the welcoming environment and wonderful acoustics of the room at SoulFire Collective.”

Fisher is a Delaware native who has traveled throughout the continental U.S. and Hawaii to study healing arts. Her natural gift for sound healing developed through her practice of therapeutic bodywork, where she learned to use intuition to tailor sessions to meet clients’ needs. Fisher held sound meditations in Hawaii, where she met Crystal Lober, who taught her how to work with crystal singing bowls.

“I know sound meditation may still be new to many people; however, almost everyone has experienced how music can induce a heightened emotional state. Sound meditation harnesses the power of music to facilitate healing and growth,” Fisher said.
