January 11, 2019

The Delmarva and Rehoboth Area Chapters of UNICO continue to actively fulfill their goals of raising funds for charity while promoting Italian culture at the same time.

The Italian Movie Night will feature “Il Positano,” a full-length film in Italian with English subtitles, and homemade pizza, at 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 17, at St. Edmond parish hall on King Charles Avenue in Rehoboth Beach. Popcorn will also be provided to enjoy while watching the film. A brief discussion of the film will precede the screening.

The annual Pasta Challenge is set for 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 21,  at St. Edmond parish hall. Favorite recipes prepared by a few members will be judged by attendees. Monetary prizes will be given to the top three competitors. There will also be covered dishes provided by non-competitors, and an Italian trivia game to engage everyone for  an evening of fun.

The Second Annual Carnevale di Venezia, an evening of great Italian food, music and dancing, will begin at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, March 2, at the Salt Pond Golf Club in Bethany Beach. There will be live music and entertainment. Costumes are not required, but Carnevale masks  are recommended.

A traditional St. Joseph’s Table will be featured at St. Edmond Church Friday and Saturday, March 16 and 17. All area residents are asked to donate nonperishable food items and bring them to the church for blessing. An Italian baked goods sale will be held after all masses March 17, with proceeds to be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society which assists local residents.

Goods will be distributed to those in need on St. Joseph’s Feast Day, Tuesday, March 19. Freshly baked bread and rolls will also be blessed at the 8:30 a.m. mass March 19 to be offered to those who would like to participate in this time-honored Italian tradition.
