Dolle's plans new store along Route 1

Dolle's Candyland, an icon on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, has plans to branch out with a new store at 14657 Coastal Highway, north of Steamboat Landing Road on the northbound lanes of Route 1 between Lewes and Milton. At its Feb. 28 meeting, Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission approved a preliminary site plan for a 5,125 square-foot building with 12 parking spaces on a one-acre parcel. Final approval by the county planning and zoning staff is pending receipt of all state and county agency approvals.

Dolle's, founded in 1927, continues to be a family-run business with two other stores in Ocean City, Md. Thomas Ibach, grandson of Thomas Pachides, one of the founders, took over the business and opened Ibach's By The Sea next door to Dolle's in 1984. Dolle's is well known for its caramel corn, fudge, chocolates and saltwater taffy, all handmade in their stores.
