UPDATE: Rehoboth cancels emergency meeting on masks

UPDATE: The city issued a press release late Wednesday evening saying the special emergency meeting has been cancelled. There was no explanation given. More information will be added when it becomes available.

In anticipation of changes to the city’s mask-wearing mandate, Rehoboth Beach commissioners have scheduled an emergency meeting for 9 a.m., Thursday, April 29.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its guidance Tuesday, saying, in part, that fully vaccinated individuals can visit with other fully vaccinated people indoors without wearing masks or physical distancing, and they can also participate in outdoor activities and recreation without a mask, except in certain crowded settings and venues.

The governor’s office announced early April 27, that the regularly scheduled Tuesday briefing had been canceled in favor of an update and virtual town hall at 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 28. The town hall can be seen on de.gov/live.

During a special commissioners meeting April 27, Mayor Stan Mills told commissioners he would wait until Gov. John Carney’s town hall before issuing any updates on the city’s mask-wearing mandates. Multiple commissioners requested to be included in the discussion on mask wearing because there were items that need to be ironed out, such as mask wearing in the crowded commercial district versus mask wearing in the city’s residential districts.
