On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles gave us all a great Christmas present and beat the New York Giants by the score of 34-10. It was a very weird game because in the first half, both offenses were absolutely terrible. The good thing for the Eagles was that the Giants continued this trend for the entire game, and the Eagles team was able to capitalize on several turnovers by New York to expand the lead. If the playoffs started today, the Eagles would have the last wild card spot in the NFC, and they would actually have to play the Cowboys in the first round. But seriously, if they want to have any chance at all to advance in the playoffs, their offense has to get a lot better with only a little time left to accomplish this momentous task.
Their next game is against the Washington Football Team, who lost to the Cowboys by the score of 56-14 last week. The Eagles looked incredibly bad the last time they played, so hopefully they will be ready to win this critical game.
This week, legendary coach and broadcaster John Madden passed away at the age of 85. He had an incredible 50-year career as part of the NFL. He first coached the Oakland Raiders, where he won a Super Bowl in 1976 and won over 100 games as a coach over 10 years. He became the broadcaster that everyone knew as he worked for all four major networks over a 30-year broadcasting career, including CBS, Fox, ESPN and NBC. Perhaps though, he will be most remembered for being the voice of the best football video game ever made. My brother and I played it a lot on our PlayStation One in the ’90s and early 2000s.
In big Olympic news, because of serious outbreaks of COVID in the NHL, the league and the player's union decided not to send players to participate in the Olympics. They intend to use the time they were supposed to play in the Olympics to make up all the games that they have already missed in the season so far. I don’t know what the Olympic organizers are going to do in order to have a men’s hockey competition, since the games are only five weeks away. Hockey has been part of the Olympics for the last 60 years, so it will be interesting to see what they decide to do about this problem.
Good riddance to 2021. Here's to 2022 being a year we will want to remember.
