Justin Thomas won the PGA Championship in a three-hole aggregate playoff over Will Zalatoris. They had tied at five-under par. The course played very difficult because of bizarre weather conditions throughout the first three days of competition. For the first two days, the temperature was in the 90s, then it flipped and was in the 40s with rain on Saturday. Thomas was able to come back from seven strokes down Sunday.
The leaders ahead of him had very little experience winning tournaments and it showed. Mito Pereira from Chile was winning by three strokes going into Sunday. He struggled all day, which brought several more players back into the tournament. Mito was still in the lead going to the last hole, but unfortunately he double bogeyed the 18th hole to miss the playoff by one shot.
This is Justin Thomas' second career major win along with the 2017 PGA Championship. If he doesn’t get hurt, at age 29, I think he is going to win more majors.
Tiger Woods made the cut in his second straight major appearance, but then decided to withdraw because of back and leg pain and the weather. Nobody knows what his future holds.
The Phillies are making no progress. I’ve said this for a number of years. The Phillies are so frustrating to watch because they have been so inconsistent. This year has been really tough because the off-season acquisitions on offense have not performed. Kyle Schwarber, who played for the Cubs, Nationals, and Red Sox has not performed consistently for the first quarter of the season. Nick Castellanos who was doing well in the beginning of the season has tailed off now.
For some reason, the bullpen has been terrible for years regardless of who has been the general manager. If the team does not get its act together fast, they will be fighting to stay out of last place with the Washington Nationals and will probably be looking for a new manager.
Good luck to all Cape Henlopen spring sports teams in the playoffs. The baseball team is just about to start Saturday. I will most likely be attending the first game. Go Vikings!
