Lots of wishful thinking

June 3, 2022

I know I will be made fun of for this as a 76ers fan, but I am going to root for the Boston Celtics to win the NBA Championship this year. They are playing the Golden State Warriors who have won three championships in the last seven years. I hope this series lasts six or seven games. Golden State is probably the favorite to win because of their more recent experience playing in the finals, but I'm still sticking with my pick.

The French Open tennis tournament is drawing to a close. For me, it is the most difficult major tournament to watch on TV because it's the least televised on typical channels. As usual, the American men did not perform well on the clay courts of Paris. Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic played each other in the quarterfinals, with Nadal winning. We will see if he can win his 23rd major, and I really hope he can.

On the women’s side, Coco Gauff, the 18-year-old American has advanced to her first Grand Slam final. I look forward to being able to watch the rest of the tournament this weekend. I also hope that Roger Federer is able to come back for one more Wimbledon and one more U.S. Open to end his professional career on a good note.

And for this week, I will say nothing about the Phillies and hope they don't disappoint me any further than they already have. Some consistent wins would be nice.

The Delaware high school spring sports state tournaments are going to end soon.

Good luck to the Cape Henlopen boys’ lacrosse team in the state finals this weekend.

Congratulations to the girls’ lacrosse team for winning its 13th consecutive championship, an amazing feat!

Good luck to the baseball team who are in the semifinals.

And last, but not least, congratulations to my neighbor Sawyer Brockstedt. She made it into a playoff situation to try to win the individual state championship in golf as a freshman! She came in second, which is still an awesome achievement.
