It may be a new sign, but it still has the same feel, as the smiling image of Nicola Pizza founders Nick and Joan Caggiano will continue to greet customers as they walk into the new Lewes Location.

Nicola Pizza installed its roadside billboard Sept. 27 at the pizzeria’s new location off Coastal Highway, south of Five Points. A sign on the brick facade facing the highway was also recently installed.

Nicola Pizza was founded on North First Street in Rehoboth Beach by Nick Caggiano Sr. and his late wife Joan in 1971. A second location opened on Rehoboth Avenue in 2010. In August 2020, the family announced the restaurant was leaving downtown Rehoboth for a new site on Route 1 outside Lewes on property adjacent to Ocean One Plaza – 17323 Coastal Highway.

The original restaurant on North First Street closed mid-June. The Rehoboth Avenue restaurant closed earlier this month, Sept. 5.

The night of the Rehoboth Avenue closing, Nick Caggiano Jr. said the restaurant is expecting a mid-October opening.
