The United States was able to outlast Iran by the score of 1-0, in their last group stage game. The U.S. played a very good first half in which they could’ve scored multiple goals. Our most well known player, Christian Pulisic, scored in the 38th minute of the game with a very unselfish goal in the middle of the 6 yard box. He was hurt on the play and had to leave the game after halftime. Hopefully he’s able to play some role in the round of 16 game against the Netherlands on Saturday. If the US wants to pull off this significant upset they have to play their best full game of the tournament.
In the second half of the game against Iran they played way too much defense and were fortunate to keep their lead and advance. I don’t understand why there is so much extra time being added in each match. Some added time is usual for injury stoppage mostly done in the second half. For some reason, the referees are adding an extreme amount of added time. More than 10 minutes extra between for the whole game is way too much. I have a bad feeling that this is going to help determine the winner of the tournament, which would be unfortunate. GO USA!!!
Last Sunday night, the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Green Bay Packers in a high scoring game 40-33. The Packers are not very good but in order for the Eagles to go far in the playoffs, like they are capable of doing, their defense has to be more consistent and the coaching staff needs to find some plays that are not Jalen Hurts just running around. I am quite worried about him hurting himself at some point in the regular season because the coaches are letting him play like a running back way too much. The same kind of thing happened with Carson Wentz in 2017 when the Eagles won the Super Bowl. Carson was running all over the place and eventually blew out his ACL, leaving backup Nick Foles to finish the job with the "Philly Special". I hope the coaches try to protect Jalen from himself as the season winds down.
