Must-win game for Eagles?

January 6, 2023

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but if the Eagles want to go far in the playoffs, I think this week’s game against the New York Giants is a must-win game for them. Since they’ve lost the last two games, I don’t think it is realistic for them to expect to reach their goal of making it to the Super Bowl if they lose the last three games to end the regular season. This game is also quite important because in the new playoff format only the top seed of each conference gets a bye from the first round of playoff games.

I expect Jalen Hurts to play the first half of the game, and I hope the Eagles have a big lead over the Giants so he can take the second half off. On the defensive side of the ball, they have to go back to being more aggressive in pressuring the quarterback. Unfortunately, because Hurts has been injured for the last two games, he has probably forfeited his chance to win the MVP of the league this year. Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen are the top two other contenders for this award. It almost always goes to a quarterback.

The 76ers are playing very well right now. They have won 11 straight games at home. In order for them to catch up to the Boston Celtics and the Milwaukee Bucks at the top of the Eastern Conference, they have to continue their winning ways because they had such a slow start to the season. I don’t know if the 76ers can hope to win the NBA championship this year if their defense does not learn how to stay aggressive for every game. They can’t continue to rely on scoring 120 points each game to win. Even so, I am still optimistic about the 76ers’ overall prospects for the season.

For the first time ever in the college football playoff era, both semifinals were very competitive games. TCU upset Michigan by getting two defensive scores and by controlling the ball most of the first half. Michigan made a valiant attempt to get back in the game, but they fell short in the end. The Georgia versus Ohio State game lived up to the hype as well. Ohio State should have won this game, but defending champions Georgia did not want to give up the crown easily. Georgia won in a shootout 42-41. The national championship game is Monday at 7:30. I hope this game is just as competitive. I will be cheering for TCU to shock the world because they haven’t won a national championship since 1938. I’m looking forward to watching college basketball starting Tuesday.
