My glass is half full

The Chiefs outlasted the Eagles in a very competitive Super Bowl by the score of 38-35. Patrick Mahomes won the Super Bowl MVP despite only throwing for 185 yards in the game. He deserved the award because he was quite efficient. He had three touchdown passes to show for it. The Eagles defense also did not play up to their high standards. They did not even record a sack in the game despite having a team record of 75 sacks during the season. The Eagles offense played well enough to win the game, especially the wide receivers. Jalen Hurts continued his great play. I hope this continues into next season when he is going to have a new offensive coordinator.

At the end of the first half, the Eagles had a 10-point lead, but it was very impressive how well Patrick Mahomes played in the second half considering he aggravated his ankle injury on a scramble near the end of the first half. It seemed like the Chiefs’ coaching staff took full advantage of the extra long halftime show to adjust their game plan and frustrate the Eagles’ defense.

Fast forwarding to the end of the game, I was surprised when the referees decided to call a defensive holding penalty on cornerback James Bradbury. The call allowed the Chiefs to run out the clock before hitting a game-winning field goal to break a 35-35 tie. I would have thought the refs would have let the teams play or require that the foul be more egregious for them to basically end the Super Bowl that way. Hopefully the Eagles can have a great season again next year so we can forget the controversy.

The City of Philadelphia has had a great sports year so far with the Phillies, the Union and the Eagles all making it to the championship of their sports. Hopefully the 76ers can do the same in June.
