Cape prom brings smiles and memories

700 enjoy an evening of dancing and fun
May 16, 2023

A little rain couldn’t dampen the spirit of the Cape Henlopen High School student body as they held their senior/junior prom May 13 at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.

The theme was Festival Fun and was inspired by music festivals such as Firefly and Coachella. The event included jugglers, food, glowing glasses and sparkly tambourines.

Carly Miller of Styled events planned the decorations that perfectly matched the vibe of the theme: LED light tunnel at the entrance; a sequined step-and-repeat wall; live trees with fairy lights and lanterns; a ceiling design with lights, tropical greenery, disco balls and ribbon chandeliers; and a silent disco room. DJ Jimmy Snead of First Class Sound provided music for both the main dance area as well as the very popular silent disco room.

Two entertainers from Starfire Entertainment captivated students as they waited in line to check in and later gave several LED light performances on the stage behind the DJ. Chick-Fil-A and Philly Pretzel Factory donated light refreshments, and a donut wall provided dessert. Class of 2024 Co-Advisors Lindsay Williamson and Mary Garvert worked tirelessly to ensure the success of this year’s prom.

“Despite the pouring rain that ultimately canceled promenade, the evening was a huge success,” said Garvert. “Students seemed to truly enjoy themselves and they loved the different unique components of this year’s prom, such as the entertainers, the step-and-repeat wall, the LED light-up sunglasses and tambourines, and the silent disco room.”
