‘Legally Blonde’ musical set at Sussex Tech Feb. 15-18
The Sussex Tech drama program will present its winter musical, “Legally Blonde,” from Thursday to Sunday, Feb. 15 to 18, at the Delaware Tech Owens Campus theater in Georgetown. Show times are 7 p.m., Thursday to Saturday, and 2 p.m., Sunday.
Based on the hit movie and novel, the delightfully upbeat production follows Elle Woods as she challenges stereotypes and embraces self-empowerment in pursuit of her dreams. The show is riddled with catchy songs and lively choreography that are sure to have audience members dancing in their seats from start to finish.
Woods has it all. She is president of her sorority Delta Nu, Miss June in her UCLA campus calendar, and the doting girlfriend of fraternity heartthrob Warner Huntington III, until he dumps her to attend Harvard Law and become a serious student. Determined to get him back, she charms her way into the same prestigious program and takes Harvard by bubblegum-pink storm. Once she gets there, though, it isn't all sunshine and rainbows. Warner has already moved on, and Elle struggles to navigate peer relationships and professors, but with the help of new (and old) friends, when the going gets tough, Elle gets tougher. She manages to defy expectations and stay true to herself, all while realizing her potential.
This is the first revised production to take the stage for Sussex Tech’s drama program. “Legally Blonde, The Musical” was originally performed by the school back in 2012, but now under the guidance of all-new staff, with a team of more than 60 students, the show has been reimagined and revamped to appeal to today’s audience.
Due to the nature of the production, this show is rated PG-13.
Tickets are $10 for students/seniors/military and $12 for the public. They will be available for purchase at the door.
