RAL’s Regional Juried Biennial Exhibition returns for its 11th year with works from artists living in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. This exhibition, which will take over the Corkran and Tubbs galleries, represents a strong collection of 2-D and 3-D works by emerging and master-level fine artists. Artists will be judged by Charles Plante, an established art dealer who has worked with many notable institutions, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the British Museum. He will choose recipients for the categories of Best in Show, Juror’s Awards of Excellence and honorable mentions.
Plante will give a free gallery talk at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, in the Corkran Gallery to discuss his award-winning picks and other notable pieces from the exhibition. All RAL gallery talks are open to the public and exhibiting artists.
Multimedia artist Phillips works in paint and fiber, combining the two to give life to each artwork, filling it with vibrancy and texture. The pieces' varying color palettes were chosen to give the viewer a different experience with each work, offering subtle details to highlight each material and emphasize how they flow together. Connecting paint and fiber in her art allows Phillips to explore many sides of herself, from her expressiveness to her meticulous, organizational nature.
Through Sept. 22, the league has two unique curated shows on display to highlight pieces from RAL’s permanent fine art collection.
To coincide with the league’s annual outdoor show event, collections committee member Kim Grube has curated an Outdoor Show Artists exhibit that features artwork by former show participants on display in the DeWitt Gallery. For 51 years, the Rehoboth Art League has presented its Outdoor Fine Art and Fine Craft Show, drawing thousands of visitors and art lovers to the league’s campus. Throughout the years, numerous artists have showcased their talents during the first two weekends in August, and RAL has acquired many pieces from exhibiting artists that are now in the fine art collection. Selected works will be available to view in this exhibition.
The Homestead is showcasing Women’s Work: Selected Works from the Women Artists in RAL’s Fine Art Collection. As a creative force, female artists have played important roles in the enrichment of the arts, but historically, their contributions took a back seat to those of their male counterparts. However, around the beginning of the 20th century, things began to change for women, which transformed the traditionally male-driven social structure around the world. This exhibition highlights works created by well- and lesser-known women from the league’s fine art collection.
The exhibitions are free and open to everyone during the regular gallery hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m., Sunday.
