Seashore Striders race nets $7,000 for Humane Animal Partners

September 13, 2024

Seashore Striders recently presented Humane Animal Partners with a check from its annual Race for the Paws 5K & 1M Dog Walk held Aug. 3 in Dewey Beach. The event saw an incredible turnout with 449 registered participants, many of whom stayed after the race to hang out with fellow animal lovers during the dog-friendly afterparty, raising $7,083 to support local animals in need.

“We’re truly thrilled at the outpouring of support for this annual event; each year it grows beyond our expectations. The hard work of the Seashore Striders race coordinators and volunteer team clearly paid off, and we are forever grateful they choose to dedicate their time to HAP’s cause,” said Leigh McKinley, Sussex director for Humane Animal Partners.

“The Race for the Paws is near and dear to our hearts, having fostered over a dozen dogs and adopted Liam four years ago,” said Roxy Castillo, who co-directs the race with Joey Castillo. “When we were asked to become race directors two years ago, never in our wildest dreams did we expect the race to grow as much as it did, and continues to, each year. We appreciate the support of the runners, community, volunteers and donors as we continue to strive to be one of the premier running events in Sussex County.”
