Lewes preservation group meets Longwood Foundation $1 million challenge

October 15, 2024

The Greater Lewes Foundation is working to acquire a 30-acre tract of land in the downtown area known as the Fourth Street Preserve. The goal is to permanently preserve the site due to its unique environmental and historic importance.

A challenge grant issued in late 2023 by Longwood Foundation offered matching funds toward the next $2 million to be raised from any sources, increasing that total by an additional $1 million.

Maria Stecker, Longwood Foundation senior program officer, left, congratulates Mike Rawl, Greater Lewes Foundation executive director, for meeting its $1 million match nine months ahead of time. The Fourth Street Preserve campaign has now reached 70% of its goal to raise $8 million, with a full year to go. Go to osalewes.org for more information.
