February 14, 2025
Anna Mumford

This sophomore honors student at Sussex Academy had a prosperous 16th birthday at the Henlopen Conference Swim Championships Feb. 8, when she demolished the conference records in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.61 and the 500 freestyle with a clocking of 4:54.22. She should be the No. 1 seed in those events at the DIAA State Championships Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the University of Delaware. She was also named the the girls’ Vince Morris Outstanding Performer. "Anna's ability is world-class," said Sussex Academy head coach Tom Martiner. "Her ability to maintain her pace in 20 lengths is unrivaled. She is also a wonderful teammate who makes it difficult to see if she is more proud of her own achievements or those of her teammates." In her spare time, she swims for the Makos club team, and she is also a Swiftie.

Jenna Reinhold

A senior honors, AP and Academic Challenge student at Cape, Jenna was a member of the record-breaking 200 free relay team with Zoey Neufeld, Isla Touw and Mia Jaoude. The girls took first at the Henlopen Conference Championships with a time of 1:42.73. She also teamed with Sidney Caldwell, Touw and Jaoude to take first in the 400 free relay. "She shares our passion for the planning and preparation that goes into a swim lineup," said Cape coach Bill Geppert. "I always have enjoyed her input into the strategy of who swims what. She can swim any stroke well and will do whatever it takes to win a meet. She has been an awesome team captain who I am really going to miss next season." Jenna is an officer in the National Honor Society and Leo Club, and participates in Morgan's Message at Cape. In her spare time, she swims for Sussex Family YMCA Tsunami club swim team and coaches the Lewes Yacht Club swim team.

Brady Schell

A 6-foot-6 sophomore honors, AP and Academic Challenge student at Cape, Brady splashed through the field at the Henlopen Conference Championships Feb. 8, scoring a gold-medal performance in the 50 freestyle in 22.47 and the 100 butterfly in 52.77. He teamed with Shane Toback, Holden Tighe and Jaxen Edwards to break the conference record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:40.10. They also broke Cape's own 400 free relay conference record from last year with a time of 3:15.87. "In only his sophomore season, he has established himself as one of the fastest 50/100 freestylers and butterfliers in the state," said Cape coach Bill Geppert. "Last year, he really got excited about our sport and now swims year-round as a club swimmer at the YMCA. His enthusiasm is contagious. We can't wait to see what he can do at states after an impressive conference meet." Brady's 100 butterfly time has qualified him for the national time standards. In his spare time, he loves skiing, surfing, skimming and hanging out with friends.

Maya Yngve

This Cape junior is a beach kid born on the Fourth of July. She has been running 5Ks with her mom Carla since she was 5 years old. Maya plays three sports: cross country in the fall, basketball in the winter and lacrosse in the spring. She also plays lacrosse with the Eastern Shore Lacrosse Club. Maya had her best high school basketball game Feb. 8, coming off the bench and scoring 12 against Ursuline. Most remarkably, Maya’s dozen points came on four three-pointers. Coach Pat Woods: “That’s Maya showing up big time. Late in the game, I turned around to our coaching staff and said, ‘Maya is cookin’,’ and Chuck [Hudson] replied, ‘The Maya Yngve game!’ She was excellent. It has been a challenging season for Maya, but her attitude and generally joyful disposition has not wavered. We have asked more of her this year than ever, and consequently, expectations can bring pressure. But she showed that she belongs.” Maya is an honors and Academic Challenge student.
