AAU Junior Olympics medalist has ties to Sussex County
A medalist in the 2024 Junior Olympic Games in Greensboro, N.C., Lanah Lucas, age 12, is the daughter of Georgetown native Leonard Lucas III and his wife,Tameka. A resident of Brentwood, Tenn., Lanah is the granddaughter of Leonard and Vonnie Lucas and Freddie and Martina Williams.
Lanah advanced from the preliminaries to the semifinals and the finals in the 100m, 200m and 400m events. Out of nearly 80 athletes from all over the country in each event, the top eight runners advanced to the finals and were awarded All-American national medals for their achievement. Lanah finished as a Top 5 All-American in the 100m and 200m events, and claimed the gold medal in the girls’ 12-year-old 400m finals with a time of 56.81 seconds.
A seventh-grader, Lanah is a member of the National Junior Honor Society and Girl Scouts. She also loves cheerleading and playing the violin.
This was her second appearance at the Junior Olympics, which hosts track & field in addition to many other events including gymnastics, swimming and fencing.
