November 13, 2024

Gems of the Cape, an art exhibition by Abraxas, will open Friday, Nov. 15, at Nassau Valley Vineyards.

The public is invited to a reception from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 22, at 32165 Winery Way, Lewes. For details, call 302-645-9463 or go to nassauvalley.com.

The retrospective show that features many paintings and sketches that Abraxas has created of the Cape Henlopen State Park over the last 27 years. A favorite destination among locals, visitors, and many species of wildlife, the park offers tranquility in an increasingly chaotic world.

The artist’s daily inspiration comes from his time there. Whether walking, sketching, swimming, or painting, Abraxas said his love for the Cape fuels his desire to highlight his favorite places within the park. A lover of nature, and travel, his oils depict scenes both near and far. Abraxas illuminates his pieces in his signature style, hoping to entice people to get outside, while also striving to depict his scenes accurately enough that the viewer can experience those places from afar.

“The contrast of ever increasing activity in our area, against the stillness of the dunes, woods, and waters of Cape Henlopen, reminds us of the need to preserve wildness. Where nature thrives, so do we,” said Abraxas.

To view his work, go to AbraxasArt.com, visit his gallery on 2nd Street in Lewes, where he also teaches classes in graphite and oil.
