I didn't speak up at the last election when expensive, glossy mailers were hitting my mailbox, proclaiming Russ Huxtable as some sort of nationally recognized advocate for affordable housing. I know I speak for a majority of Anthem residents when I say Huxtable could not have been any more dishonest, disingenuous and disappointing during his years as vice president of Milford Housing, which developed the Anthem subdivision. The Anthem houses sold at market price and were in no way any type of affordable housing. I certainly hope neither Huxtable nor Milford Housing received any type of nonprofit status or subsidies!
To this day, Anthem suffers from drainage issues that neither Huxtable nor Milford Housing are willing to accept responsibility for. To think that uncontrolled overdevelopment is the biggest issue in Sussex County, and to have Huxtable as our local state senator is a hypocritical slap in the face! Anthem residents were misled, lied to and ignored for years. Huxtable blames Sussex County for the deficiencies, but he was right in there with Sussex Conservation District and the county making the deals that led to the problems we were left with.
Watching him campaign on everything he is not, like an honest, responsive elected official, is completely the opposite of what we have experienced from Huxtable. We love our neighborhood and have risen above the failures of Russ Huxtable, Milford Housing and all the agencies that were tasked with looking out for us. It never should have been allowed to happen the way it did, and for Russ Huxtable to now come asking for our votes is only an indication of the man's true lack of the kind of integrity one would expect from a state senator.
