Back-and-forth
Unfortunately, the Philadelphia Eagles continue their inconsistent play and they lost to the San Francisco 49ers 26-21 this past Sunday. The defense actually played pretty well contributing 14 of the 21 points. It was very disappointing to watch a very mediocre performance by the offense. This team needs to get on the same page! It took until the fourth quarter for the offense to be able to even start a play over midfield. The defensive effort was the only chance they had of winning that game and almost pulled it off but were stopped at the 2-yard line on the last play of the game. The Philadelphia media needs to calm down a bit with their negativity. The Eagles are still in first place, and have only lost one game. I get it that there has to be major improvement as the season ramps up, but the media is already acting like the season is over. The Eagles play the St. Louis Rams next week, and the Eagles offensive line needs to perform a whole lot better because the defense of the Rams is the best part of their team.
The Europeans won the Ryder Cup in Scotland by the score of 16.5 to 11.5. They scored most of their points in the alternate shot format of the event, winning seven out of the eight possible points. Unfortunately, the U.S. golfers couldn't dig themselves out of that deep of a hole so it was over before it even began. Phil Mickelson's comments took the attention away from the European team's win during a press conference at the close of the tournament. He was complaining about the U.S. strategy and even though he was on point, he should have held his tongue for a few days. The European team was very deserving of this year's victory.
Since the Phillies are completely out of the running for the championship this year, I will be rooting for the Baltimore Orioles. They take on a very tough pitching rotation with the Detroit Tigers in the first round. The match-ups for Kansas City Royals vs. Anaheim Angels should make for some good baseball as well. The Royals haven't been in the playoffs since 1985 so they want it bad.
In local sports news the fall match-ups for high schools have been pretty exciting, especially if you are a Cape fan. The football and field hockey teams for Cape are currently undefeated. It's great to see the school having such a great start to the sports year. Keep it up, Vikings!
