Now that the Phillies season is over, I am completely conflicted in terms of who I'm going to cheer for from the National League to make the World Series. It will either be the Chicago Cubs or the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Chicago Cubs are actually the odds-on favorite to win the World Series, which is a big story in itself. The last time they were in the World Series was 1945. It will be cool if they can break their 108 year curse. If the Dodgers make the series, it will be interesting as a Philly fan because of the presence of former Phillies; Chase Utley and Carlos Ruiz on the Dodger roster.
I wish the Dodgers well since this year was the last year for the Dodgers legendary broadcaster Vin Scully. He broadcast for an amazing 67 straight years! Nobody will ever match that streak again. He started broadcasting Dodger games all the way back in 1950 when they were still in Brooklyn, New York. This means he called six years of Jackie Robinson's career, which is nuts.
The United States Golf team won back the Ryder Cup from Europe, by a surprisingly lopsided score of 17 to 11. The matches were pretty close until the end of Saturday afternoon's play. It was actually tied on Saturday until the US won the final three matches going into singles play on Sunday.
For the whole week, the level of play by both teams was very impressive. They made the Hazeltine National Golf Club course look very easy when it wasn't supposed to be. The US team was manhandled two years ago in Scotland by the European team. Sweet revenge!
I hope the Eagles aren't negatively affected by having a bye week so early in the season. I hope they will be focused this week while playing the Detroit Lions. The Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants will probably be our chief rivals for the season in terms of winning the NFC East Division. I think the Washington Redskins will fall by the wayside.
Are any of you as tired as I am of all of the talk about the New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr.? He is just one player on an entire football team. He is a bit of a train wreck right now. He will need to get over himself sometime soon. Come on man!!
