Breast cancer gala fundraiser attracts more than 450 attendees
The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition hosted another successful Lights of Life Gala March 1 at Bally’s Dover, bringing in a remarkable 460 attendees. This year’s event, themed A Night in Paris, offered supporters an opportunity to accomplish a unique mission for the evening: celebrating life and survivorship while raising money for the DBCC.
Linda Marquess, DBCC board vice president, said during her remarks at the gala, "As a two-time survivor, I can attest to the profound mental and physical impact of breast cancer. For 34 years, DBCC has been a lifeline, offering education, support and hope. Our caring team has made an immeasurable difference. The Lights of Life Gala is critical, fueling our lifesaving work across Delaware."
From sponsors to auction donors to attendees, the event would not have been possible without the community-wide support from a variety of sponsors including businesses and individuals offering help with organization, logistics, committee service and volunteer efforts. Partners like these make DBCC’s life-saving work possible.
The event’s Survivor Showcase featured nine local Delaware breast cancer survivors – Amanda Evans, Marianne Callahan, Karen Laitman, Janene Kahn, Rosie Rolph, Beth Bland-Denisuk, Elle Sheaffer, Veronica Pitts and Sandra Addicks. Survivors from different walks of life shared their stories of dealing with the disease and how the DBCC’s survivor programs help them live life to the fullest. The Survivor Showcase highlights the importance of breast health and education as well as early detection.
“Our survivors’ stories and their courage through their breast cancer journey truly inspire our vital work throughout Delaware and make the gala so meaningful. It’s our privilege to honor them on this special evening and thank our community of support for the impactful difference they are helping to make through DBCC’s programs,” said Francesca Vogel, Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition CEO.
Guests donned a variety of Paris-inspired attire, including sparkles, flowers and polka dots. Master of Ceremonies Chelsea Clark and DJ Brian K. Hall kept the energy high throughout the night. Gov. Matt Meyer and his son Levi were able to attend the event, and in his speech, Meyer celebrated the DBCC and affirmed his support for the important work of nonprofits. Sen. Dave Wilson, R-Lincoln, and David Skocik, Delaware Veterans Coalition president, once again auctioneered the event, bringing their upbeat and fun personalities to help raise funds for a great cause.
The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition appreciates every individual who helped make this event a night to remember and looks forward to hosting the gala again next year. Learn more about DBCC at debreastcancer.org.
