Last night, the Phillies lost to the worst team in the National League, the Florida Marlins! But that wasn’t the most concerning part of the night. The team had three significant injuries on the same night!
Bryce Harper strained his hamstring on the last play of the game while trying to get to first base. Let's hope he won't be out for a month, including the All-Star game. He was going to start at first base for the National League.
Kyle Schwarber was playing in the outfield for the first time in a while, and proceeded to strain his groin. He will probably be missing for some period as well!
And pitcher Spencer Turnbull will be out for six to eight weeks with a problem with his shoulder. He was going to be the fifth starter.
For the past week, the team was coming back to Earth anyway with not playing as well as they were before this disaster of an evening. All of this development is definitely not going to help.
In international soccer, the U.S. is hosting COPA America, a competition for the North American and South American countries. We had a good performance in the first game in the group stage against Bolivia on Sunday, but our chances to make it to the knock-out round in the tournament took a huge blow Thursday in the game against Panama. The team proceeded to lose 2-1 against a very mediocre Panama team when one of our most talented players got thrown out of the game with 75 minutes left. That forced the U.S. team to play down a man for the remainder of the game.
The last U.S. group game is against Uruguay, which is a perennial power in this competition. I will be very surprised if the U.S. team advances to next round now.
The NBA draft was held this week. The first two picks were both from France. There are a lot of international players who have became stars in the NBA right now, which is pretty cool. The 76ers picked 16th. Nobody expected them to keep their pick in the first round, but they did and picked Jared McCain, a guard from Duke. He reminds me of Tyrese Maxey or Kelly Oubre Jr. on the current team. McCain is supposedly very fast and hard-working.
I also heard that LeBron James Jr. "Bronny" got drafted by the Lakers. If this comes to be, he would be the first player ever to play with his father on the same team in NBA history. I hope this works out for both of them. They're going to feel ton of pressure but it will be great to watch as it play out.
