CAMP Rehoboth hosted a service of hope and remembrance Dec. 1, to mark the 37th annual World AIDS Day at All Saints’ Church in Rehoboth Beach. This year, World AIDS Day organizers have adopted the nationwide theme, Collective Action: Sustain and Accelerate HIV Progress.
Nearly 100 people attended the evening service, which began with a candlelight walk from CAMP Rehoboth on Baltimore Avenue up First Street to All Saints’ Church on Olive Avenue.
A section of the AIDS Memorial Quilt was hanging from a custom frame behind the pulpit. This year, the section included the patch for artist Keith Haring. He was also known for his activism in promoting AIDS awareness. Haring died Feb. 16, 1990, in New York of AIDS-related complications. He was 31 years old.
The service featured performances by the Alliance singers of the CAMP Rehoboth Chorus, and a dance and word presentation of Psalm 23 by Pam Jusino.
Additional programming will be offered at CAMP Rehoboth during December in honor of HIV/AIDS Awareness Month and as part of CAMP Rehoboth’s commitment to community connection, awareness and social impact. CAMP Rehoboth also provides free condoms, dams and rapid HIV testing Monday to Friday, all to help end the HIV epidemic.
