Agave and SoDel Concepts were named Cape Community Champions at the April 27 Cape Henlopen school board meeting.
School board member Jessica Tyndall said students in the Cape High Functional Special Education Program work at SoDel Concepts restaurants Crust & Craft and Thompson Island Brewing Company two days per week.
The locations are new vocational sites for students in the life skills program, Tyndall said. Students assemble pizza boxes, prep food, clean dishes, wipe tables and menus, refill table condiments and help with table setting.
Agave is a new partner for Sussex Consortium students, school board member Julie Derrick said. Five days per week, students work at the Route 1 location, filling water and hot sauce bottles for tables, setting up chairs, wiping and replacing menus, and setting tables.
Students also have the opportunity to try a variety of Mexican food and also work on their table manners and communication skills when they enjoy lunch after their shifts, Derrick said.
