A young Cape girls’ lacrosse team ran the clock on visiting Polytech 19-1 March 24 to open the 2025 season. Cape, the defending Delaware state champion, lost a dozen players to graduation last year.
Senior Macy Steinwedel led all scorers with five goals, including scoring her 100th career goal.
Claire Lopez added three goals, while Avary Miller and Amara Fruchtman each scored two. Single goals were scored by Allaire Burton, Ally Diehl, Mairead Rishko, Mikaela Gordon, Mackenzie Todd, Regan Best and Haley Gamuciello. Twelve of Cape’s goals were assisted.
Cailey Carter scored for the Panthers.
Abbey Schaeffer got her first start in goal for Cape. Heidi Ryan stopped seven shots for the Panthers.
Cape next goes on the road for three tough games at Queen Anne’s, Broadneck and Sussex Academy.
