The Cape girls’ tennis squad is prepping for the 2025 season with the full confidence of second-year head coach Rich Rasa.
“The outlook for our season is very bright,” said Rasa. “Although we lost three seniors, we have the rest of the team back, and we have acquired some great athletes who are very focused on playing great competitive tennis.”
Returning for the Vikings is sophomore Abby Hazzard at first singles. Hazzard made in to the semifinals of the DIAA state tournament last season.
Rounding out the top seven are Katie Costello, Julia DiSabatino, Mya DiSabatino, Courtney Kosc, Anika Sekhri and Ailene Corey.
Rasa is hoping to build for the future, as he has kept 26 players to make a developmental squad with the hope of growing for the program for years to come.
“We also have a squad of girls that will be the building blocks of Cape’s girls’ tennis in the future,” he said. “Yes, Cape’s girls’ tennis future is bright.”
The Vikings went 9-3 in 2024 with their only losses coming to Sussex Academy, Caesar Rodney and Archmere, but the Vikings aren’t taking anyone lightly.
“Every team we play is our toughest competition,” said Rasa. “We will be playing each match one court at a time. We are very proud of our girls coming ready to play this year. For the past several weeks, we have been working hard to make this year’s record one that we will be proud of at the end of the season.”
Cape travels to Polytech Tuesday, March 25 to open the regular season.
