Cape girls’ tennis sweeps Seaford 5-0

The Cape girls’ tennis squad moved to 3-0 with a 5-0 shutout of Seaford April 1 in Lewes.

Cape first-singles player Abby Hazzard defeated Seaford’s Martine Laguerre 6-0, 6-0. 

Second-singles player Kathryn Costello downed Laura Charles 6-0, 6-0, whileJulia DiSabatino won a 6-0, 6-0 against Staelle Janvier at third singles. 

Cape’s first-doubles team of Mya DiSabatino and Courtney Kosc downed Seaford’s Shama Estimable and Fabrina Prosper 6-0, 6-0. 

The Vikings’ second-doubles duo of Ailene Corey and Anika Sekhri bested Seaford’s Rebecca Derine and Sihawa Dort 6-0, 6-1. 

For the second home match in a row, the Cape girls sang the national anthem before the match. The Seaford girls joined in to make it a positive patriotic experience for all in attendance.

The 3-0 Vikings head to Archmere Friday, April 4, for a matchup with the Auks.

 

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
