Nine Cape High business students traveled to Orlando, Fla., April 22-25 for the DECA International Career Development Conference, where senior Jia Qi Xie placed 10th in his event.
More than 20,000 high school students, advisors, business professionals and alumni gathered for the annual conference, where DECA members demonstrate their knowledge and skills by participating in competitive events in the fields of marketing, finance, hospitality, management and entrepreneurship.
Cape students qualified for the event based on their performance at the state competition, held in Dover in February.
Jia earned his 10th-place world finish by competing in a virtual business challenge simulation, in which he had to launch a profitable, full-size restaurant after targeting demographics, create a menu and advertisements, and choose a location and kitchen setup.
Students took part in written exams, role-play scenarios and leadership development activities.
