Cape wrestling crowned two state champions in 2025 in Nick Walker and Patrick Donahue. That marked 28 champions over Cape’s 55-year history, with Chris Mattioni having coached 19 of those champions.
Sixteen championships have been won at the new Big House gym since 2009, while Randy Johnson won a state title at 132 pounds in 1977 at Cape’s Little Big House. Tyrone Gibbs, Jon Lobiondo, Anthony Caruso, Cory Lawson and Luke Bender each won two titles, while Thomas Ott won three. One-time state champions were Willie Vann, Randy Johnson, Perry Walls, Charles Turner, Jerad Hill, Matt Graviet, Brian Riggin, Aaron Mattioni, Andre Currie, Mikey Frederick, Lucas Ruppert, CJ Fritchman, Austin Guerrieri, Nick Walker and Patricia Donahue.
Cape’s 2025 team recently celebrated its season with a banquet brunch at Baywood Greens in Long Neck.
