Carolyn E. Hutchison, had adventurous spirit

Carolyn E. Hutchison, 77, of Lewes passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025. Carolyn was born Feb. 10, 1948, at home in Wilson, N.C.

She moved to Bonney Lake, Wash., in 2016 due to a declining illness.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Eleanor Mae Moore and JT Moore.

She is survived by her daughter, Chela Y. Hutchison (Karen) of Bonney Lake, Wash.; her brother, Joe T. Moore of Rehoboth Beach; sister, Sue Moore of Milton; nephews, Joss Hudson and Brax Hudson; niece, Wendi Moore; great-nieces, Savana Hudson, Kira Hudson and Kaysie Moore; and Karen's extended family and dear cousins in North Carolina.

Carolyn graduated with Lewes High School Class of 1966. She played basketball and field hockey, and was a majorette in the marching band. She also was a participant in the Miss Lewes Pageant.

She worked at Sussex Trust Bank and with Dr. Irving Stambaugh before moving to California in 1968-71. She worked at Security Pacific Bank.

Carolyn and Bill Hutchison were the first marriage performed at The Point on Cape Henlopen in 1973 by Rev. Mays.

She was employed at Seaford Construction Co. and James Julian Construction Co. in Dover. As a homemaker, she decided to further her education and graduated from Delaware State University as a department scholar of psychology in 1984.

Carolyn went on to pursue her master's degree at Washington College, graduating with excellence recognized by the Psi Chi Honor Society in 1991. She became an on-call counselor for Rape Crisis of Delaware and a case manager for Independent Living Inc. of Dover. Carolyn was last employed as a specialist and manager in the Dover office of AHED Inc. until her retirement in 2013. She also became a Mary Kay consultant, empowering women to promote their own businesses in Mary Kay.

Her adventurous spirit was in alignment with one of her favorite Eleanor Roosevelt quotes, "Do one thing every day that scares you."

Carolyn will surely be missed by her family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Sussex County in the spring of 2025.
