Catherine Baumann, helped others
Catherine “Cathy” Baumann, 70, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Friday, Nov. 15, 2024. She was born Sept. 11, 1954, in Cumberland, N.J. Cathy was a devoted fiancée, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter whose love and kindness left an indelible mark on those around her.
Cathy is survived by her fiancé of 33 years, Jack Hurd; her sons, Jonathan Wells and Jeremy Hurd (Jeanna); and her beloved grandson, Landon. She is also survived by her sisters, Linda Card and Amy Magee (John); her brothers, Larry (Debbie), Jeff (Laura), Timothy “Why” (Crystal) and James “Nut” Holding; and a large extended family of nieces and nephews, each of whom she cherished deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Frank Holding; as well as her brothers, Frank Jr. and Billy Holding.
Cathy dedicated herself to hard work and helping others, spending over 15 years with CHEER and recently working part time at Dollar Tree in Georgetown. Beyond her professional life, she found joy in simple pleasures, spending sunny days at the beach or relaxing by her pool. Recently, her greatest happiness came from watching her newborn grandson, Landon, grow and develop in his first months of life.
Affectionately known as the “mother hen,” Cathy was a beacon of compassion and care. Always ready to help those in need, she embodied selflessness and kindness, touching the hearts of everyone she met. Her warm presence and nurturing spirit will be profoundly missed.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton. A time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.
