Diabetes coalition sets wellness expo Nov. 12

November 11, 2024

The 22nd Annual Wellness Expo hosted by the Delaware Diabetes Coalition will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Delaware Technical Community College, Terry Campus, Del-One Conference Center, 100 Campus Drive, Dover.

This event is free to the public. A free box lunch catered by the Food Bank of Delaware Culinary School will be provided.

The expo brings together healthcare providers, businesses, diabetes-related organizations and others to promote diabetes self-management and healthier lifestyles for people with diabetes. It will include more than 35 exhibitors and health screeners, and an educationally packed program presented by community health leaders. Attendees will leave better equipped to manage their diabetes.

Highlights will include a keynote presentation on The Art of Happiness presented by Dr. Steve Goodwin from the University of Delaware; a panel highlighting The Vital Role of Specialists in Diabetes Management; and free vaccinations, health screenings for diabetes and blood pressure, stress assessments and foot exams.

A complete agenda, speaker biographies and exhibitor lineup can be found at dediabetescoalition.org under the Diabetes Expo menu.

This event is free of charge thanks in part to sponsors Diabetes & Heart Disease Prevention & Control Program, Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, AmeriHealth Caritas Delaware, Bayhealth, Beebe Healthcare, Delaware First Health, GRAIL and TidalHealth.

More than 95,000 Delaware adults reported in 2021 that they had been diagnosed with diabetes, according to the Delaware Behavioral Risk Factor Survey. The survey also shows that 84,800 more Delaware adults reported being diagnosed with pre-diabetes. Progression to type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed by losing weight, engaging in at least 150 minutes of physical activity weekly, and improving one's diet.

Preregistration for the expo is encouraged to beat the check-in line. To register, go to bit.ly/DDCExpo24.

The Delaware Diabetes Coalition is a statewide nonprofit organization comprising a network of healthcare organizations working together to improve the lives of all people in Delaware affected by diabetes through awareness, prevention, identification, advocacy and dissemination of services.
