The Eagles almost get some Thanksgiving help

November 29, 2024

Yesterday, the only Thanksgiving football game that was really worth paying attention to was the first one between the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears. I was hoping that Chicago was going to be able to pull off an upset. They almost did complete a come back from a 16-point deficit in fourth quarter, but the game ended in a bizarre fashion. For some unknown reason, the Bears only ran one play in the last 35 seconds of the game. They had one time-out left and were only five to 10 yards from being able kick a game-tying field goal to send the game into overtime, but instead, they tried for a touchdown and the clock ran out. I'm still trying to figure that logic out! This result could affect the Eagles’ seeding in the playoffs because they need the Lions to lose at least one more game to have a chance for the No. 1 seed in the conference. So that was definitely disappointing.

Speaking of disappointing, it was disappointing for the NFL to have two of their most popular franchises, the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, playing each other on Thanksgiving with both teams having bad records this year. That does not happen very often.

The 76ers better start winning some games fast, beginning on Saturday against the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons were a disappointing team last year, but have started to improve this year. If the 76ers are going to have any chance to get back to a .500 record, they need to start now. The only team that has a worse record than the Sixers are the Washington Wizards, who have been terrible for 15 years. I hope the 76ers players are embarrassed with this terrible record and will start to win some games. They haven’t played the Washington Wizards yet, so hopefully they can at least win the season series against them.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving celebration with their families and friends.
