Unfortunately, one of my predictions actually came true on Sunday when the Eagles were overwhelmed by the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks will likely be one of the NFC favorites to make it to the Super Bowl along with the Dallas Cowboys.
Despite the final score, the Eagles actually had a chance to go ahead in the second quarter, but they blew it after our wide receiver Nelson Agholor failed to do his job on a screen pass to their tight end Zack Ertz, which cost them a touchdown. After this play, the Seahawks took control of the game and never looked back. I will actually be surprised if the Eagles finish the season with more than a .500 record.
Their next game is against the Green Bay Packers on Monday night football. This game should be a high-scoring affair because the Packers defense is very weak. I sure hope the Birds can win this game.
This week, US soccer decided to part ways with coach Juergen Klinsmann and they have appointed an old favorite to be his replacement. Bruce Arena will get a second run as head coach. In 2002, Arena managed the US team to a World Cup quarterfinal finish which is as far as they've gone. Maybe the Arena magic is still there. The first step in the process is for the US to qualify for the 2018 World Cup competition in Russia. That will be difficult, considering the hole they're in for now.
Congratulations to the Delmar Lady Wildcats who represented the Henlopen South Conference well by winning their first State Field Hockey title over Tower Hill. Delmar had been to the title game four out of the last five years losing to Cape each time.
Speaking of field hockey, the University of Delaware field hockey team won their first NCAA D-1 championship last Sunday over perennial power North Carolina. I watched the second half of the championship game. It took a very big game for me to pay attention and watch field hockey, because I have never understood all of the complicated rules. Both Delmar and UD had a great group of athletes and super team speed. I hope UD can stay on top next year.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
