Last Thursday, the Philadelphia Eagles gained a significant advantage in the NFC East by beating the Washington Commanders by the score of 26-18. That being said, they still have not played a complete game on offense this season. In the middle of the third quarter, the Eagles only had seven points, but then Saquon Barkley decided to take over by scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The defense continued their consistent play.
The Eagles have some difficult games coming up, including this week against the Los Angeles Rams in LA, and then games against the Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers in the next few weeks. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think the Eagles are the second-best team in the NFC behind the Detroit Lions. Detroit has never won a championship in the Super Bowl era.
The two best teams in the AFC just played each other – the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills.
The hot stove free agent season is about to begin in baseball. The big free agent is Juan Soto, who played last season for the New New Yankees. He’s only 26 and has been an all-star for three teams already in what will likely be a hall of fame career. I don’t think the Phillies have much of a chance to acquire him because of the ridiculous salary inflation there is in baseball these days. The Phillies would have to mortgage the franchise's future for the next five years to pay him. The biggest thing I think the Phillies should do this next year is to not have the same team as last year and still believe they’re going to win the World Series. I’ve heard some significant rumors about them trading their third baseman Alec Bohm and replacing him with Houston Astros third basemen, Alex Bregman. I would be happy with this.
In other baseball news, Zack Wheeler finished second in the Cy Young race to Chris Sale. I wasn’t surprised by that, but I was surprised that it wasn't even close. Sale won by getting 26 of the 30 first-place votes. Hopefully this will serve as some motivation for Zack to have yet another great season!
