On Sunday, the Eagles beat the undefeated Minnesota Vikings in impressive fashion. The defense turned up the heat and completely dominated the Vikings offense for the whole game.
The first-quarter performance by both teams was really hard to watch. There were five straight possessions with turnovers for the first time in NFL history. The halftime score was 11 to 3. Sounds like a baseball score. The Eagles’ offense was not very consistent, but they scored enough to win. I think we can beat almost any team if both the offense and defense will just play well for a 60 minute game.
This week's game is against the division leading Dallas Cowboys. Their offense is a well oiled machine led by a very impressive rookie quarterback Dak Prescott from Mississippi State. The game is on Sunday Night Football.
The Baseball World Series is tied one-to-one. The results of the first two games show me how important consistent starting pitching is in the playoffs.
In the first game, Cleveland's pitcher Corey Kluber was virtually unhittable. Then the roles reversed and Chicago's pitcher Jake Arrieta pitched very well in game two. As a result, the two scores were fairly lopsided, 6-0 for the Indians and 5-1 for the Cubs. I hope that the remaining games are close because that is the fun part of watching sports to see who comes out on top in a close series.
So far, the most intriguing story of the World Series has been that of the Cubs’ Kyle Schwarber who was hurt with a bad knee injury back in the beginning of the season. He has been rehabbing this injury with the hope of a comeback for the World Series. Taking into consideration that he hadn't faced live MLB pitching before this week, his performance in the first two games has been pretty amazing. If the Chicago Cubs go on to win the whole thing, this season will become legendary, like Gibson's home run for the Dodgers in the 1988 World Series.
Congratulations to the Cape football team for the big 35-0 victory over CR last Friday. Keep up the good work.
Overall in the last 10 years I've been very proud to be a Cape graduate because it seems like every year one of our sports teams always has a shot at a state championship of some kind; both boys and girls. This is very impressive for a medium-sized public school, because they are not openly allowed to recruit players.
Go Cape!!!
