Finally Day's day
Jason Day won the PGA championship in record-setting fashion becoming the first player in the history of men's professional golf to complete a major tournament at 20 under par. He defeated Jordan Spieth by three shots. Despite the margin of victory, it was an exciting finish to watch. Because of the difficulty of the last two holes, you didn't know who was going to win. Even though he lost, Jordan Spieth also set a record of his own for the cumulative number of strokes under par over the four 2015 major tournaments.
By just one shot, he beat Tiger Woods year 2000 record of 53 under par. Phil Mickelson had a pretty good week finishing in the top 20 after only making the cut by one shot. Tiger Woods missed the cut by two shots, but he wasn't nearly as bad as he was at the British Open or the U.S. Open.
The Whistling Straits course is very beautiful, but I do not like it because it would be impossible for normal players to have fun playing there. There are just way too many bunkers! This will definitely not be Jason Day's last major championship. He has tons of talent and the will to win.
The Phillies are continuing to close out this season with the deconstruction of the team. This week they decided to trade second baseman Chase Utley to the Los Angeles Dodgers. This seemed inevitable, but I am sad as he was my favorite player to watch. He tried as hard as he possibly could in every game and was very humble about it for his whole career. He was a huge part of the 2008 World Series Champions team and beyond that as well. After he plays the rest of his career with the Dodgers, I hope he signs a one day contract with the Phillies, so he can retire as a Phillie.
The Philadelphia Eagles' first preseason game performance was pretty impressive against the Indianapolis Colts, especially on offense. They scored 36 points. On the defensive side of the ball, you can't really tell how good or bad they were because Colts quarterback Andrew Luck hardly played. I wish they could skip ahead to the regular season, the preseason is very boring to watch and I'm always anxious about unnecessary injury potential in these preseason games.
In tennis, the U. S. Open will start on August 31. I look forward to this tournament every summer. I do wish there were more U.S. men who had any chance to even make it past the first two rounds. Serena Williams has a chance of a lifetime to win the single year Grand Slam. She may be the best women's tennis player ever. Straight out of Compton!!
