Find all the news that’s fit to print in the RES Sands
Rehoboth Elementary students launched a monthly newsletter, RES Sands, to promote school happenings as well as teamwork and responsibility.
Fifth-grade teacher Tina Windsor said students do all the work.
“We have completed four copies and we have 47 students in our group from grades first to fifth!” she said.
Student CEO Brooke Bevins oversees all articles, and fifth-grade leaders manage different sections.
“They make sure the articles from younger grades get typed and are ready to go,” Windsor said.
The newsroom holds two monthly meetings where students can submit work; they can also send articles to the fifth-grade team through the Clever app.
Each issue contains a wealth of information, such as field trip recaps, birthday announcements, features on staff and student achievements, and Leader in Me habit discussions.
The monthly paper highlights happenings in each grade level, special events like the friendship dance and 100th day of school activities, the monthly calendar, Spanish words of the week, and lots of photos.
Students are also encouraged to use their voice by writing opinion pieces, which call for more kickballs at recess, water fountains on different areas of the playground and more timely replacement of water fountain filters.
Younger grades are ready to step up and continue publication of the RES Sands in the 2023-24 school year.
