Fred Thomas Middle School students present research results

February 15, 2025

Seventh-grade students at Fred Thomas Middle School recently showcased their research, creativity and critical thinking skills during dynamic presentations on their Informational Research Lab curriculum. Fifth-graders from Lewes Elementary visited the middle school to learn about the students’ research projects.

Unit 2 of the American Reading Company Research Lab curriculum focuses on informational research regarding the human body. Students spent several weeks diving into texts, conducting research and developing insights on the various systems within the human body. Their presentations highlighted their ability to synthesize information, articulate findings and share thoughtful conclusions.

"We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication and effort throughout this unit," said Meghan Catts, assistant principal at Fred Thomas Middle School. "Their presentations demonstrated not only their academic growth but also their ability to engage with complex ideas and communicate effectively."

Students presented their research with multimedia displays that showcased their understanding of a particular human body system.

“Their enthusiasm and depth of knowledge were evident as they discussed their learning process and answered questions from the fifth-grade students. The event not only shows the school’s continuous commitment in fostering a love of learning and preparing students for academic success through rigorous, research-based programs, but also helps in establishing connections between students who will be together in the same building next year as eighth-graders and new sixth-graders,” said Catts.
