Frederick S. Womer, veteran, true patriot
Frederick “Fred” S. Womer, 82, of Selbyville, formerly of White Marsh, Md., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, in the comfort of his home.
Fred was born in Baltimore, Md., May 17, 1942, son of the late Herbert S. Womer and the late Corinne (Kipp) McClogan Jameson. He attended Augusta Military Academy in Virginia from 10-15 and graduated from Dundalk High School in Dundalk, Md. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
Fred retired after 31 years of service from Baltimore Gas & Electric, where he was an assistant sales manager. He then went to work for Cloverland Dairy for another 13 years before retiring completely.
Fred was a true patriot and devoted to his family. He was a Marine through and through, actively participated in all types of Marine Corps activities, and was a member of the American Legion Post 166 in Ocean City, Md., where he enjoyed shooting pool. He was a member of the Chorus of the Chesapeake and the Barbershop Harmony Society. Fred will be remembered as a hard worker and an amazing husband, father, and grandfather who could shoot a mean game of pool, and he also loved to golf.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Alice M. (Plempel) Womer; a son, Frederick “Freddie” Shawn Womer of York, Pa.; a daughter, Corinne McNutt and her husband Scott of Selbyville; three grandsons, Zachary C. Meyers and his wife Hannah of Annapolis, Md., Tyler J. Meyers of Baltimore, Md., and Alex F. Womer of York.
A viewing will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., Frankford, where a funeral service with military honors will begin at 5 p.m. Interment will be held privately at a later date at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Fred’s name to the Leathernecks, c/o American Legion Synepuxent Post 166, P.O. Box 63, Ocean City, MD 21843.
