Gold team powers to 112-109 victory over Blue in all-star game
Delaware high school basketball fans were treated to quite the spectacle at Smryna High School during the Delaware Interscholastic Basketball Coach’s Association 2025 Blue-Gold All-Star Game. Gold took home bragging rights with a thrilling 112-109 win.
Cape senior Dame Robinson and Delmarva Christian senior Malachi Light represented their schools on the Gold team and felt good about their efforts.
“I came out not really worrying about scoring as much; I just wanted to play defense and contribute to the win, and that's what I did,” Robinson said. “I'm pretty happy.”
Robinson enjoyed joining, and in some cases rejoining, forces with quality players from the southern part of Delaware.
“I'm not used to practicing with them; I'm really used to playing against them,” Robinson said. “To be able to play on the same team with people is pretty good.”
The Cape senior played a critical role down the stretch with selfless play.
Light also said he accomplished his goal when he splashed down a three-pointer.
“I just wanted to make a three and see what else I could do,” Light said. “Goal accomplished.”
Despite coming from a smaller school, Light showed he belonged on the floor.
“For our conference [ESIAC], you don't see that talent anywhere,” Light said. “Big difference when you're up against all these amazing players. It was a ton of fun to play against them.”
Gold jumped out to an early lead and maintained it, despite surges from the northern players. A dunk show was put on in the second quarter in what served as a preview of the upcoming halftime dunk contest, which was won by St. Andrew’s Elijah Proctor Moore.
As the seconds ticked away, so too did the Gold team’s lead. Blue threatened late in the fourth quarter, but suffocating defense and outstanding play from the game’s MVP, Laurel’s Brock Hill, helped seal the win.
“At practice, we said, ‘We're gonna come out and get the win,’” Robinson said. “That's what we did.”
