Thoughts from the sidelines

Good enough to win

October 4, 2015

On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New York Jets by the score of 24 to 17. They had control through most of the game. The second quarter was when the game got moving when special teams ace, Darren Sproles returned a punt for a touchdown. Overall, the running game of the Eagles improved leaps and bounds compared to the first two games and free agent running back, DeMarco Murray didn't even play in this game.

The defense played very well, just as they did against the Dallas Cowboys last week, the one thing that is frustrating for the defense is the loss of their injury prone, free-agent acquisition, Kiko Alonso (for at least a month). I hope nothing happens to Sam Bradford on offense. And the good thing about the NFC Eastern Division this year is the fact that nine or ten wins should be enough to make the playoffs.

The Phillies season ends this weekend. I'm ready to leave it behind. There is a possibility that Miguel Franco will be coming back from his wrist injury to play in one of the last three games. I do not understand why the Phillies would risk him getting hurt again in games that don't matter at all. Let's hope they can at least play two of the three last games and beat the torrential rains along with the Miami Marlins.

For once, one of my predictions actually came true. Jordan Spieth won the Tour Championship and the Fed Ex Cup Championship. He played two almost perfect rounds this past weekend to beat Henrik Stenson by four shots. Spieth won $12 million just this weekend and $22 million (his age) for the year! This doesn't begin to include endorsement money. Let's hope he can continue to keep his head on straight and have a great encore performance next year.
