Groome Church in Lewes held an anniversary celebration Oct. 27 marking 120 years of faithful service to Christ and community.

Church leaders, choir members, trustees, former and current congregants, and friends gathered to celebrate the history of Groome Church since its founding in 1904 and take a look toward its future.

Groome Church Associate Pastor Rich Evans led a Service of Thanksgiving that included Lewes Historical Society Board President Denise Clemons explaining the relationship between Groome the family and Groome the church, "How Groome Became Groome." Trustee and Lay Leader Retta Rose Frampton read scripture, shared the Gospel of John, and shared a greeting from the Rev. Dr. S. Willard Crossan III, church pastor, who is on the mend from recent surgery.

Violinist Michelle Peters and cellist Steve Van Horn filled the sanctuary with beautiful, celebratory music. Former Cape Gazette publisher Dennis Forney, a longtime Groome Church member, took those in attendance on an anecdote-filled, insightful and entertaining meander down memory lane that included, “Births, Weddings, Funerals and Scrapple!” A memorable time was enjoyed by all.
